about

This is a track about self identity in the social media era. "In this cold world lit by screens, no-ones what they seem." So many of us are hiding behind our screens for fear that people won't like the real person within us (if there even is one). But at the same time all of us are searching for someone to peel back the facade and love us for who we are

lyrics

So you think that you know me? Maybe you like me, maybe you think I’m far too dry. Maybe you hate the way I look or speak or sing. But I wonder if only the norm, was to look beyond the storm and see the blue skies start to form. Then maybe the stars would seem much brighter than before. Cause in this cold world, lit by screens, no-ones what they seem. Our Insta-lives viewed through a rose-tinted hue like we’re living in a dream. Soon you’ll never wake up! You’ll remain in that digital brain refreshing the pages over and over. Look over your shoulder and run for the hills. Build a fortress around yourself piled up with pills and the walls will stand fast, to all who should ask, if you cover up your face with a thin sheet of glass. Solitude is fortitude until the walls envelope you so Tear off my mask and free me at last. So I can see clearly. The enemy you know, is a much kinder foe than the voices inside of you ripping out your soul. I want you to know me, I want you to see. I want to show whats underneath but its buried deep within, under six layers of skin made of fear and neuroses and loneliness and sin. But you know that everyones alone. We’re a generation with expectations of Californian Gold. And yes, I know that theres no such thing as true revolution. But I want to be heard. Yes, I want to be heard. So won’t you tear off my mask and free me at last, so I can see clearly. The enemy you know, is a much kinder foe than the voices inside of you ripping out your soul. I want you to know me I want you to see. I want to show whats underneath but its buried deep within, under six layers of skin made of fear and neuroses and loneliness and sin. Tear me from this self-inflicted prison, and love me for who I am. Show me how to love myself. I just don’t know where to begin.
